A pair of Trumpeter Swans wade through the mist rising off a warm spring on a frigid Winter morning. Swans mate for life and were once nearly extirpated from the Yellowstone ecosystem. The recovery efforts have seen some success, though the population still hangs in the balance and depends on successful reproduction from pairs like this.
