The American Bison historically numbered in the millions was nearly extinct due to the ignorance, greed, and hate of hunters and settlers looking to exploit them and displace the native cultures who had depended on them for thousands of years. Fortunately there were some who saw the value of their existence and the importance of preserving them and took action when they were nearly wiped out. We owe the privilege of experiences like this to those who not only cared, but took action before it was too late.
